    March Roundup + April Goals

    Posted in Poker

March was a very good month for me. It had the potential to be my biggest month ever and I was on track to hit 6 figures but it simply wasn’t in the cards. I think I was over the hump at one point during a session and I could have taken the rest of the month off or dropped stakes but that’s just not my style. Don’t get me wrong – the thought certainly crossed my mind – but then logic settled in and when I saw great games running at all stakes I couldn’t help but jump in to win me some delicious delicious EV. I got hammered over the last few days but have no right/reason to complain as the month was fantastic overall.

    March 2011 Stats

I ran hotter than the sun at 2/4 to 5/10 and pretty terribly at 10/20 and 25/50. It seemed to work out but this month if I have to run bad at some stakes in the future I will try to make it the lower ones (I advise you to do the same!)

    April Goals
    • 120k hands
    • $100k profit
    • Make two videos for PokerStrategy
    • Complete parts three and four of the Ultimate Guide to SNE

I’m going to keep things simple and leave it at that. I have had $100k profit as my goal for about two years now and have yet to hit it. Last month was the closest I’ve ever been and hopefully the momentum from March will follow me through April. I hope everyone reading this had a great March too and I wish you all luck in the new month!

      Hi Rohit,

I’m a pokerstrategy player and I just wanted to say congratz on the sick results, the nice blog. Saw your PLO coachings and they are very understandable and well explained.
Your 2-table format is the best imho, since it’s easier for less experienced player to follow your action. You can concentrate more on the diffrent lines/tendencies of the opponents.

Got a question about your HUD though, whereon did you base your color ranges, did you enter them yourself or did you take some kind of base and started tweaking from there ? I ask you this because I’m looking to colorcode my HUD but don’t find any reliable information on which ranges should be applied for stats.

Best of luck in the future, I’ll sure be railing.

        Hey,

I’m glad you enjoy my blog and videos :)

Regarding my HUD, I just came up with the colour ranges on the spot when I was configuring it. They have no mathematical or statistical research other than my own empirical evidence from playing at the tables. For some of them I don’t think this matters much (PFR/VPIP/3bet) as it’s easy to put anyone below 15 vpip as red and above 35 or so as green and have yellow in the middle and that’s a good enough estimate of how someone plays.

For some of the other numbers I am planning on going through them and double checking them. I might make a blog post about it. My HUD is optimised for shortstack play at the moment (with a limp-re-raise number in there as well as opening percentages from every position and action vs steal stats in sb and bb) but when I play deepstacked I find that a lot of these are useless.

I think the best thing is to come up with them on your own – as that way you know the reasoning behind your decisions – but in the mean time I will try and write a blog entry in case anyone does want to just quickly input some colours :)

        Thanks,

        Rohit

          Hi again,

Thanks for the information and your prompt reply. It sure would be nice to read some more about color coding but as you stated in your reply maby it’s better to apply ranges for yourself.

If you’d find the time to write a blog entry on it, I’d surely be very thankfull but I don’t want to be asking you to write things you didn’t plan on writing.

          Thanks again.

      Hi Roy,

very interesting blog especially u update so often.
Two questions : 1.What is the big diffrence in BIs up and down between EV and winnings in your career?
2.In earlier episode u are talking about impoving by watching the videos. Do u have any favourite site, coach or what u recommend just for PLO?

      Good luck

        Hi,

Thanks for finding my rambles interesting. I try to update frequently with high content – a goal that most bloggers likely have when starting out. I plan on being here for the long run though :)

        1. I filtered for 2/4 to 25/50 hands over the last few years and I am running about 55 BIs below EV. When you include some of my lower stakes (where I did a lot of silly flips and all-in pre every hand type of thing) the numbers are much closer together and I am running approximately at expectation.

        2. My favourite site and coach without a doubt is Bluefirepoker for Phil Galfond’s videos. I haven’t watched videos by all of the great players yet (though I have seen videos from leggopoker, cardrunners and BFP) but from what I have seen Phil’s are by far the best. I highly recommend them.

Imo, BFP is by far the best coaching site.
It goes very deep into meta-gaming and learns you how to play specific opponents.

I just think that bluefire is a site where you’d subscribe to once you are a midstakes player or higher. For players who play on lower stakes I think they better off subscribing on cheaper sites like DC orso.

Bluefire is pretty expencive but you get more for your money, it goes as I mentioned earlier much deeper into analysis of opponents and without a descent knowledge of the game already you might be watching vid’s without really grasping the essence.

          Again, just my opinion.

      I would agree with that.
