I woke up to see a few good 25/50 tables and some INCREDIBLE 10/20 ones. By Incredible I mean 3 purpleys! I should explain. Whenever I take notes on a player I color-code them. I use red for the toughest of regs and purple for the spewiest of whales. Then I have orange, yellow, green and blue for “winning reg”, “break-even reg”, “fish” and “bad reg”, in that order. So when I see a table with 3 purpleys it’s one of those drop-what-you’re-doing-and-jump-into-the-game-NOW-before-there-is-a-20-person-waitlist things. Speaking of 20 person waitlists – I hate the trend that occurs when there is a table as fishy as the one I described above (or even when there’s a table with one particularly big fish on it) and as soon as they start playing the waitlist starts piling on — before you know it there’s 5, then 10, then 20 and so on. Then as soon as the fish leaves the table breaks (noone on the waitlist wants to play anyone else). It’s really bad form. For starts, if you’re 10th on the waitlist after 8 other regs do you REALLY think that they are going to join the game and leave before the fish does and give you a chance to play? It’s silly. Anyway, digression over.

Back to my session. The tables were heavenly. One guy had a 97% VPIP. I had had my morning coffee and felt great. Then it began. It started with a small beat, then I win a stack, then I lose a double stack, then another and another and before you know it I hit my stop-loss for the session. 200 hands is all it took. Granted it isn’t much when playing 10/20 and 25/50, though shortstacking does reduce the variance/likelyhood of such swings a bit.

So about 25 minutes into my day and I hit my stop-loss. What’s the plan? I figured I’d do something I never do (and should do more of) and go for a walk. We live in an amazing spot by the water and never take advantage of  it. I wanted to take a bunch of photos to share with you guys but it was a cloudy/overcast morning and most of them came out crap. A couple were decent enough though:

The plan is to take a little more of a break and jump back into the games if they’re good. I have a stop-loss for the day if things continue to go bad which if I hit I will take another break and spend the rest of the day grinding 2/4. Hope everyone else is having a better run than I am right now.

How do u feel about the cap games being removed? and did you know about it. I was playing the .25/.50 cap games and i got home from work wednesday and they had been vanquished. i was shocked/pissed

I knew about it via the thread on 2p2 but I also had a PokerStars rep contact me and ask my opinion on the matter. As a semi-regular in the 2/4 cap games I was OK with their decision to remove them. I felt that with a 20bb cap the rake ate up such a high % of any possible profits that it was basically a rakeback-fest.

I lobbied for a higher CAP, either 30bb or 40bb (or even 50bb). That would allow people to continue to play somewhat shortstacked and be all-in often, but with the rake being less of a killer. Winrates would also be higher due to more postflop play.

Did you do well in the .25/.50 CAP games out of curiosity? I imagine the rake there would be even higher as a % than at 2/4 but I don’t know exactly how the rake structure works at lower stakes.
